The Importance of Objectified Medical Reporting
Introduction
The Prostate Cancer Research Institute's goal is to help
educate people about prostate cancer to improve their communication
with their
physicians in order to arrive at the best possible outcomes. Communication
of your medical story is a key to unlocking pathways leading to optimal
care. Information
must
be conveyed properly: reported objectively, assimilated and re-presented
clearly.
We are in a computer age that allows wonderful graphical presentation
of data. The reporting formats we now should be using must be reviewed
and updated to convey our current ability to present factual information,
trends or changes over time, comparison of present studies to past and
clear presentation of final impressions.
Currently, most reporting remains in the narrative format.
The use of narrative (story-telling) reporting in the medical arena
is subject to serious problems due to the subjectivity of this style
of
reporting.
Objectified reporting is a foundational principle of real medicine.
The improvement in outcomes that can be achieved with such a simple style
change can be monumental. The physician also has a lot to gain since
the insights attained via such data management reestablish the true spirit
of medicine: realizing new insights into disease diagnosis, evaluation
and treatment. Please review the forms presented in this section of the
PCRI website and incorporate them into your care package.
