In Memory of Harry R. Correll

Harry R. Correll age 70, of Solvang, CA (formerly El Segundo) passed away peacefully after a long battle with prostate cancer on October 10, 2007 at 2:45 a.m. with his family at his bedside. He is now home with the Lord and with his parents and infant daughter.

He worked for the Los Angeles City Fire Department for 47 years before retiring earlier this year. Most of his career was spent as an engineer at Fire Station 64 in South Central Los Angeles. He was a volunteer firefighter for the City of Solvang for 20 years and was an active member of the Santa Ines Mission.

Harry was born October 2, 1937 in Dubuque, Iowa to Naomi and Harry Correll and married his high school sweetheart, Joyce Johnson, in 1960.

Harry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce Correll; his children, Lisa Correll Blackford (David) of El Segundo, Harry J. Correll (Elisa) of Buellton, CA, Linda Correll York (Edward, Jr.)of Lompoc, CA, and Lori Correll-Goodwin (Johnny) of Solvang, CA., also survived by his grandchildren, David Blackford, Melissa Blackford, Jamie Goodwin, Johnny Goodwin, Kyle York, Adam York, and Cole Correll, also survived by many friends who are considered his family in the Los Angeles City Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry J. Correll and Namoi G. Correll (Ellis) as well as his infant daughter Susan Correll who passed away in 1962.

A Rosary will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 7:30 P.M. at the Old Mission Santa Ines in Solvang, California. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, October 15, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Old Mission Santa Ines with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Ballard, CA. A reception following the burial will be held in the reception hall at the Old Mission Santa Ines to celebrate Harry's life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either the Los Angeles Firemen's Relief Association, 2900 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90026 (www.lafra.org) or the Prostate Cancer Research Institute, 5777 W. Century Blvd., Suite 800, Los Angeles, CA 90045.

The donor will also receive an acknowledgment letter. It is PCRI's policy to acknowledge all memorial and "gift in honor" contributions promptly after receipt.

The Prostate Cancer Research Institute is a non-profit corporation, exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. It has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation as defined in section 509(a) of the Code, and qualifies for a maximum charitable contribution by individual donors.
