Find an Expert Physician
While we recommend that a patient go to an expert in the treatment
of his choice, it is difficult to obtain information on the skill
level, experience or results for individual physicians. The treatments
for prostate cancer are complex with significant risk of complications.
Obtaining excellent results requires extensive experience. We suggest
asking questions like:
You may want to do a search of PubMed to see if a physician has
published any papers. You could try a search like:
If you are not familiar with PubMed, it is a great source to search
for medical abstracts. It is often possible to obtain the full
text version from a medical library or even your local library
via inter-library loan. You can access it at:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/PubMed/
You can often obtain valuable information from a local prostate
cancer Support Group.
The following pages include physicians who are known to members
of the PCRI Medical Advisory Board as specialists in treating prostate
cancer. This is by no means a complete list of the premier prostate
cancer physicians. Absence from the list should not be considered
a negative assessment by PCRI. PCRI cannot recommend that the treatments
provided by the physicians on the list will be appropriate for
any individual patient and we cannot provide any suggestion about
the quality of treatment results that an individual might expect
from these physicians.

Web sites that may help locate Physicians
The Web sites below have lists of physicians who provide certain
specialties. Some of these are provided by companies who sell medical
equipment, supplies or pharmaceuticals. Others are provided by
professional organizations. The lists provided by these Web sites
may not give any information as to the experience or qualifications
of those listed. We encourage patients to carefully research a
provider to locate an “artist” for the desired service.
ClinicalTrials.gov is a useful source for finding physicians who
may have superior knowledge of the latest treatments. You can do
a focused search for “prostate cancer” and your location
to identify physicians who are participating in clinical trials
