Executive
Director Transition
at the Prostate Cancer Research Institute
Glenn Weaver, the Executive Director of the Prostate Cancer Research
Institute (PCRI) is stepping down from his position effective February
28, 2006 to concentrate on his real estate investing business. The
new Executive Director will be Brad W. Guess PA-C, who brings an in-depth
background in prostate cancer care and research from his position at
Prostate Oncology Specialists in Marina del Rey California.
In tendering his resignation, Glenn said, “I am looking
forward to concentrating full time on a hobby that I have enjoyed
doing over
the last 20 years. I will also be doing some part-time consulting
in the non-profit world. I have been with the PCRI for seven years
now,
and I am certainly proud of what we have accomplished. I have been
working with Brad since early October to ensure a smooth transition,
and I am confident that our programs will continue without interruption
and that the PCRI will remain the leading organization for offering
in-depth, useful prostate cancer information to patients, their families,
and their physicians.”
Glenn Weaver first joined the PCRI in 1998 as a consultant to plan
and oversee the PCRI’s first national conference. He accepted
the position as Program Director in 1999, expanding PCRI programs
and funding opportunities, and he became Executive Director in
2001. Under
his leadership, the PCRI staged both national and regional conferences,
attracting many of the leading experts in the prostate cancer field
both to speak at the conferences and to submit articles for publication
in the PCRI Insights newsletter. During this period, the PCRI Helpline
and Website became widely recognized as important information sources
for men with prostate cancer and their families. Today, the PCRI
continues to be staffed and organized to carry out its fundamental
mission:
“To improve the quality of men’s lives by supporting research
and disseminating information that educates and empowers prostate
cancer patients, families, and the medical community.”
Brad Guess is emphatic that the PCRI will continue to be driven by
that mission and will build on the accomplishments made during Glenn
Weaver’s tenure. “I am inspired and excited to join
with the dedicated staff, board members and supporters of PCRI in
continuing
to fulfill their mission to the prostate cancer community. I am confident
that the unique services and resources that the PCRI offers, such
as the Helpline, Insights newsletter, our Website and patient conferences
will continue to flourish. I am also excited about new programming
and research we are working on (especially for patients with advanced
prostate cancer) that should be of real value to patients, their
families
and medical providers.”
We wish Glenn much success in his future endeavors and thank him for
his contributions to the PCRI and prostate cancer community over the
last 7 years.
