In Memory of Marlin Muse
After
a 12 year battle with prostate cancer, Marlin Muse died peacefully
at home on Saturday, September 15 surrounded by family.
Born in Yakima, Washington on March 5, 1933, Marlin spent the first
27 years of his life in Washington before moving to Southern California
in 1960. Marlin worked in the Torrance School District for over 20
years, as a teacher and Student Activities Director at South High School
in the ‘60s and as a counselor and Dean of Students at West High
School in the ‘70s and ‘80s.
After years of teaching, Marlin moved and began the entrepreneurial
part of his life. He opened the Old Town Optical Shop in Monrovia and
finally retired in 1998 on his 65th birthday.
Marlin loved to play. Tennis, cards, games, baseball, basketball – he
loved them all. But most of all he loved his family. He will be sadly
missed by his wife Shirley; his daughter Kerry and husband Steve Upp;
daughter Michelle and husband Randy Davis; daughter Colette and husband
Mark Smith; his stepdaughter Kara and husband Dan Gordon; his stepson
Brent and wife Tara; his brothers Del and Galen and sister-in-law Rosie
and their families and many loving friends. But he will be especially
missed by his 11 grandchildren who were the lights in his big blue
eyes.
The family requests that donations be made to the Prostate Cancer
Research Institute.
The Prostate Cancer Research Institute mission is to improve the quality of men’s lives by supporting research and disseminating information that educates and empowers patients, families and the medical community.
